Compromising to be happy?

For some people there comes a point in their lives where they have to choose one between happiness and money. Generally what happens is that they will select one and then regret their entire life thinking about the other.

As a result they end up being miserable and having neither happiness or money in their lives. Ideally what should happen is that we either should find happiness in what brings us money or earn money by doing what makes us happy. In order to do that, one might has to compromise on the level of expectation. Now the real question is, are we really ready to compromise on our expectations? If yes, you are a winner. If not the second question is how miserable do you wanna be in life?

When I posted this on my FB, Buddhi ayya commented on that.
"Compromise on the level of expectations.... like how happy you want to be or how much money you want to have? Then I think I would rather try to be very happy with having enough money :) So that means I have to find other means (other than money) to bring me more happiness, don't I?"

My reply to that was,
"That's a choice you made. For some of us, making that choice is a long hard process. There we might have to reword our definitions about happiness and financial success and work towards them. So its kind of compromising on our initial expectations and settling to a common ground."

He had more to say..
"I was having almost the same discussion with some other friends... and its very interesting. Like Bhanuka said it really depends on the person. Some of us care more about being spiritual for example... so as long as you feel good about yourself and happy, it is a good way to go. And when you do that, I think mostly you will not feel like making a compromise as all. That's how I feel."

Like he correctly said, when you are happy with your way, you won't feel that you are making any compromise. That is simply because the feeling of compromising indirectly tells you that you are not happy at that moment about that particular decision. When you are happy about your way there are no compromises about happiness at all. In other words, one might feel like compromising on a particular decision at a given time but with time, he will no longer see it as a compromise after he found his happiness along that decision he made.
